Latest WIP – A Crochet Blanket For Eva

I’ve been getting a bit stressed again recently and as always I’ve fallen back on Crochet to help me through. It really is amazing how calming crochet can be, especially when you are familiar with the stitches/pattern.

I knitted a fluffy blanket for Izzy last year & Eva wanted a blanket of her own. With limited funds I haven’t managed to find any really nice soft fluffy wool/yarn for her but thanks to my friend adding to my stash I have started on a simple blanket for now so she doesn’t feel left out, especially with winter nearing and our love of sofa days with pillows, blankets, TV, books & hot chocolate!

Eva loves anything reallllllyy colourful (hence loving her colourful crocheted bag!) so I suggested making a blanket up out of lots of different colours/shades, which she was quite excited about.

Crochet blanket for Eva

I’ve been working on this blanket on and off and finally picked it back up again this week, mostly as Izzy keeps telling me I need to… ‘MUMMY! SIT! ROUND AND THROUGH! SIT!’ haha!

With Eva picking colours as we go it has slowly grown over the last week or so & we have decided to make it big enough to fit Eva’s bed for winter too so I will be making a second square & attaching them. I’m really enjoying making this blanket, changing colours and not having to think too much about what I’m doing as I can do this stitch with my eyes closed! (Yes I have tried, it amuses the girls haha!)

Eva wants me to incorporate the cupcake stitch I recently learnt somewhere in the blanket. I’ve been doing 3 rows though. Cupcake stitch is 2. What do you think? Maybe I could use some more of the colourful wool to blend it all together?

Do you crochet? If so, what are you currently working on? Or thinking of starting?

Me You and Magoo

Dear Bear and Beany

That looks beautiful. It'll be stunning once it's done. My friend made me one when our littlest was born and it goes with us everywhere. Thankfully, it washes well too :)

Thank you for such a lovely comment! I learnt anything knitted or crochet washes fine usually but tend to need drying flat. Hoping this does as it's so many different wools 🙊 I do love handmade blankets & the idea of them being used for years 😊

Can't beat a relaxing granny square blanket when you're feeling stressed. Love that your daughter is picking out colors. The cupcake stitch would look great as a border when you've put the two squares together. I've just finished a wide stripes bobble blanket and it was wonderfully repetitive but very yarn hungry! I made it with donated yarn and it will go into a charity raffle. Enjoy making your blanket - it looks wonderful!

Thank you for your lovely comment! I am really enjoying making this and it's calming me down nicely. Your bobble blanket sounds amazing & so lovely to give it to a charity raffle! Thank you so much for popping by x

I love crochet and making my softies is my way of calming myself when im anxious. Im not good with blankets though, they always end up lopsided or I get bored before I finish them x

Ah I really do love seeing your makes! I show Eva as she loves them too but they look sooo complicated! I may try to find a simple one to try at some point xx

relentlesslypurple | 8 years ago Reply

If you can increase and decrease in crochet you should be able to make most things. Patterns are often far more complicated than they need to be. Thats why I prefer to make up my own xx

That makes sense. Once I've learnt the stitches needed I've stopped following patterns as I seem to mess up a lot more and get confused, thought it was just me haha xx

There's nothing prettier than a brightly coloured granny square, in my opinion!

I love this blanket, the bright colours are great. The fact your daughter is picking the colours makes it even more special, hopefully she will treasure it for many years. Also, it's good to hear that crochet is helping with your stress levels, we love to hear that at #craftingismytherapy! Thank you for linking up 😃

Lovely blanket and the colours are gorgeous. I don't crochet but make beaded and hand stamped jewellery, although I've lost my making mojo a bit at the mo. #SharingtheBlogLove

Big granny squares are a current love of mine! I think a border in the cupcake stitch would be lovely - often, I find that granny blankets look at their best with a border added, especially if you're joining motifs. Can't wait to see the finished piece! xx

I must admit I thought it would be a little boring but with all the colours it's looking quite lively 😊 thanks for popping by xx

This is gorgeous! I have attempted crochet a few times. I have a book I am working through and have learnt a few stitches, but I don't seem to be able to find the time to sit down and get on with a proper project! I am envious of people who have such a talent! #sharingthebloglove

Aw thank you! 😁 I love learning new stitches as I go. I bought some awesome stitch markers that stay put so now If I get even 5 mins I'll do a few stitches & put it down again & I've started doing more in the evenings too. Thanks for popping by xx

It's gorgeous, I love that you are letting Eva choose the colours as you go along! I've only discovered crochet quite recently and I love it, like you say it is really calming when you get into a rhythm. I'm currently making a Sky Blanket where I crochet a row each day based upon the colour of the sky, next year I'm thinking about a big granny square blanket like yours that I can just go round and round on, or maybe some smaller cushion covers. Thanks for linking up to #craftingismytherapy!

Thank you 😊 wow, that sounds absolutely amazing! I'm definitely going to do a few cushion covers after this too xx

I can't crochet to save my life but I love the colours in this - it's really striking! Despite not being able to crochet I do have a few handmade blankets as my friend loves it, and they're so lovely and soft - so nice to snuggle under! Thanks so much for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

😌 I do love handmade blankets too, I cant wait to get a few made up for this winter! Thank you for popping by xx

These colours are fabulous! I used to crochet often but I have a blanket I'm not even half way through making and it's currently taken 4 years to get to that point! I'm not sure I will ever finish.

beautiful :) I do crochet but I haven't for ages. I went through a spurt of crochet excitement and made about 10 blankets. I've now decided we have enough lol. I also find it helps with anxiety and stress too. I have emetophobia so I find it really helps if I feel a panic attack coming on #KCACOLS

Ah it really is such a calming & uplifting hobby isn't it? I do feel amazing when I complete a project :) Thanks for popping by x

relentlesslypurple | 8 years ago Reply

Yes that sense of achievement !!

Emma | 8 years ago Reply

I rarely feel like I'm achieving much other than a little bit of cleaning here & there so this really does make me feel good :D

Beautiful colours! At the start of the year I crocheted a stormtrooper blanket for my sons bed and hubby wanted one too, I got started on the squares (over 600 needed) but only got about 50 done so far as I haven't touched a crochet hook all summer. I really need to get back to it as crochet is like therapy for me, so calming. The smaller one for my son took four months and this one is twice the size so I don't think he'll be getting it this winter!

I love a bit of crochet too - as long as there isn;t too much counting going on! I have just finished a blanket for a friend's baby girl. I have an unfinished masterpiece upstairs for my own daughter - the only thing left to do is the border, I don't know what is stopping me from picking it back up - apart from all my other ongoing craft projects, of course ;) x Alice #kcacols

I do find counting frustrating so I love simple patterns like this :) Haha Once you do finish it you'll have to share it with us! Thanks for popping by x

I love the colours! It must be lovely to have a talent like this, I am useless at anything like this. I have to get my mum to do any sewing for me!!! Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove x

Thank you 😊 I do really enjoy it! I can't sew to save my life though haha! Thanks for popping by xx

Crochet is so good for stress isn't it? There's something about getting to the end of a long day and settling down to a few rows (usually with tea and cake) Lovely blanket, so colourful #craftingismytherapy

I would love to be able to do something like this but I'm not creative in the slightest. The blanket looks gorgeous. #kcacols

Thank you 😊 Maybe check out some youtube tutorials? That's how I've learnt to crochet

relentlesslypurple | 7 years ago Reply

Oh wow, that would be cool. So many things to learn via YouTube! I'd love to be able to teach my daughters to knit or crochet when they're a bit older x #KCACOLS

There really is! My girls love watching me, Izzy (2) likes to have a plastic hook and a ball of wool & sit's next to me whilst I crochet 😊 my eldest is keen to learn too but more interested in knitting so I have some hat & scarf looms we will be giving a go over the next few months x

This looks lovely and colourful - no wonder your daughter is keen for you to finish it! I never learnt to crochet. I did attempt knitting when I was younger but didn't get very far with that either! I obviously just don't have the knack for it! Thank you for linking up to #KCACOLS and I hope to see you back again on Sunday x
